- 개에서 매우 흔하며, 고양이에선 흔하지 않음

- 진피의 mast cell 기원

- nodule이나 plaque 형태의, 수 mm에서 큰 mass의 다양한 크기로 관찰됨

- 보통은 single이지만 multiple도 가능하며 진피나 표피에 위치하며, 돔이나 버튼형태의 pedunculated, alopecic, erythematous or hyperpigmented, firm, soft or gelatinous in consistency and sometimes ulcerated

- adults and old dogs are most commonly affected, but rarely, single or multiple MCTs can also be observed in very young dogs

- Boxer, Shar-pei, Labrador, Golden retriever, Boston terrier

- A transitory change in the size occurring after a slight trauma, such as FNB, is commonly observed in many canine MCTs; this clinical behavior is unique to MCTs, in which nodules tend to increase in size and then, after a few hours, return to the original size

- 이러한 특성은 mast cell의 degranulation에 의하여 granule에 포함된 혈관확장인자로 인해 부종이 발생하기 때문에 나타남

- 몇몇 case에서 이러한 특성으로 인해 diffuse한 erythema가 관찰되기도 함
